Fairytales & Free Will

I think that one of the largest misconceptions about God is that, if you believe in Him all of your dreams will come true. That, in a sense there is this magic genie up in the sky that nods his head and fulfills all of your desires instantly and without question. -Just sign here on the dotted line. More than that, I think people often turn from God after having this false expectation that everything in life relies solely on His power and will. That financial struggle, physical pain, loss, and sorrow are all a direct result of God and that there is nothing you can do to change it.

I'm here to say that God does not grant wishes. If He did, I believe I would own a Harley. God did however, grant us free will. There in lies the problem. Free will allows us to have the opportunity to sin. Without sin there would be no pain. However, without free will there is no choice. We would be little army men that God took off of a shelf. Figures, moved and manipulated without any comprehension as to why or what we are doing. Instead, He loved us and gave us the option to love him back. God may know what path you are going to choose before you do it - but He still wants you to be the one to choose it. So yes, you have the opportunity to choose the wrong path. Everyone in existence does....and it shows. Ever heard the saying "bad things happen to good people" well that's because even if you are following as closely to God as you can, other people still have the option to get in your way. Its not because God viciously condemned you. Its because He loves us, all of us, and without sin -you wouldn't have the choice to love him back.

Christians: Judgmental, Intolerant and Supressing Human Desire

I would have to agree that Christians can seem intolerant and judgmental for one simple reason -some are. Unfortunately, the sad truth of the matter is that everyone is. While some are better at managing it than others, human nature regretfully tends to produce distain for differences. Our history is saturated with intolerance and judgment, as is our daily lives. Humanity is known for the traits that you seem to be attributing strictly to Christianity. Since the beginning of time we have seen examples of segregation, racism, sexism, and prejudices of all different types. We still see these traits predominantly in our culture today. Racism is still a very real issue within our culture as well as sexism. These forms of intolerance and judgment flood our social media platforms currently and yet, have nothing to do with religion of any kind. After considering the various ways humanity has chosen to “judge” and “tolerate” different people over time, Christianity doesn’t seem exclusive. Wh...

Communicating Christianity Effectively

There are many ways that the Bible is viewed in our culture today. For many, the Bible is an instrument of faith, a resource for encouragement, and a guide to help form answers to questions like; "How did we get here?" "Where do we go after death?" and "Why are we here?" For others however, the Bible is perceived as merely an ancient artifact that simply records the history and spiritual beliefs of what is, to them, a false religion. A famous Atheist by the name of Robert Ingersoll once quoted “ The inspiration of the Bible depends on the ignorance of the gentleman reading it.” Christians view the Bible as a collection of holy, God inspired texts that help set up the framework of how to live, what we believe, and what shapes one's identity. The Bible says “ How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to your word.” (Psalm 119:9)                 As Christians, there are many ways to approach a non-belie...
